Think about it, next weekend about half of us will be loaded into a car, truck, SUV, camper, or some other modified mode of transportation and heading toward the beach. Memorial Day weekend kicks off the summer driving season and for Louisiana motorists, we have some good news regarding gasoline prices.

They are lower.

Triple-A, the American Automobile Association, says drivers in Louisiana are paying about .14 cents less for a gallon of regular gas than we were paying for it just one year ago. Last June the price of a gallon of regular was $2.62, right now that price is only $2.48.

When you consider the average price for a gallon of regular across the nation is $2.85 then you can see just how good we've got it in Louisiana, at least when it comes to gas prices. Our check of local gas prices found fuel as low as $2.21 a gallon in the Lafayette area. The lowest price we found in the Lake Charles area was $2.24 a gallon.

Of course, gas prices can fluctuate from day to day based on world events and even weather issues. However, forecasters with AAA seem to be fairly confident in their assessment that it will cost you and me a little bit less to drive to our vacation destinations this summer.
