The Lafayette Parish School System announces they are keeping their students in their Phase 2 Hybrid model, which has children going to a physical school site on some days and taking classes virtually on others, until at least November 6th. That's the end of the current grading period.

In the plan, LPSS has assigned group letters to students who attend their school on their designated days. Students in Pre-K through 5th grade will continue attending class in-person five days a week while students in 6th through 12th grade will continue attending class in a hybrid model. LPSS Schools Superintendent Irma D. Trosclair points out "teaching and learning models (are) phase dependent."

“LPSS schools have done a great job maintaining safety protocols and adhering to recommended guidelines," says Trosclair. "As we work to plan for a transition to Phase 3, we will maintain a deliberate and measured approach to ensure we are providing a healthy learning environment for our students and staff.”

This update does not impact students who are enrolled in Lafayette Online Academy. As Lafayette Parish School Board Member Justin Centanni pointed out months ago, if you go to a School of Choice, you will not lose your spot if you choose to do the virtual online academy. Centanni also points out if you go to the virtual academy, you can play sports at the school you are zoned for.

In looking at the plans released below, you can see how the following issues are handled in each phase:

  • Wi-Fi/Internet Connectivity
  • Lafayette Online Academy
  • Transportation
  • Symptom Monitoring
  • Facial Coverings
  • Child Nutrition
  • Visitors on Campus
