Around 4 o'clock this morning Lafayette Police were called out to the South Orange Street area after the reports of shots being fired.

Police began to pursue someone in a suspicious car.

Police say after a short pursuit two men got out of the car at the intersection of Sterling and East Simcoe, and they were armed with handguns.

Police say they ran from officers.  While they were running away, police officers say they heard several shots from the area where the suspects were running.

Police set up a perimeter around a two block area near Moss and Simcoe Streets.

They are still searching for the two suspects at this time with the help of K-9 officer.

Police say two black male suspects were being sought, but police were unable to find them.

Police have released the scene now according to Spokesman Paul Mouton.  They were unable to locate the suspects, but the driver of the car was detained and is being questioned.
