Interim Parks and Recreation Director, Frank Wittenberg, has resigned from his position.

The news was posted to Facebook by KATC, and you can see their post here

Wittenberg took the job after the retirement of Gerald Boudreaux, longtime Parks and Recreation Director. Boudreaux put out a statement after his retirement in regards to his decision to retire.

This comes on the heels of Lafayette Mayor-President Josh Guillory announcing the closure of four recreation centers in the Lafayette area which stirred controversy amongst the community.

Just yesterday, protestors interrupted a town hall event put on by Guillory to show their displeasure with his recent decision regarding the recreation centers.

This story is still developing and will be updated when more information is made available.

UPDATE: Frank Wittenberg sent in his official notice of resignation to the Lafayette Consolidated Government and you can see the notice as well as their response below.
