Lafayette Man Arrested on Kidnapping, Abuse, Desertion Charges
A Lafayette man was chased into the Vermilion River after he allegedly kidnapped a young girl.
According to the Acadiana Advocate, Nathaniel Zeno was arrested after he allegedly kidnapped the girl on Pinhook Road.
Megan Wyatt of the Advocate says that, according to a news release from the Lafayette Police Department, Nathaniel Zeno, a 31-year-old Lafayette man, allegedly kidnapped the girl in the 1600 block of Pinhook Road in Lafayette.
He allegedly shoved her into a vehicle and drove away.
The story goes on to say that eyewitnesses were able to give police details about the incident, including a description of the alleged kidnapper and a license plate number and description of the vehicle.
It appears that the whole situation arose out of a domestic situation.
Police located the suspect vehicle at a local gas station and both the suspect and the child were inside. The suspect fled in the vehicle with the child, and officers with the Lafayette Police Department gave chase.
At some point during the chase, Zeno abandoned the vehicle, and the child, and fled on foot.
With the help of a K-9 unit, Zeno was located in the Vermilion River and arrested.
The Advocate reports that he was charged with several crimes, including child desertion, domestic abuse battery, aggravated flight, and simple kidnapping.
KATC TV3 reports that Zeno has an “extensive criminal history”, including restraining orders filed against him by former romantic partners. One of the restraining orders included protection for a child.
