It was a very special day for not only one student who returned to school today but for several members of the Lafayette Fire Department too.

Elliot Borque was surrounded by members of the LFD as he walked onto campus today and the reason why the firefighters were by his side is because his dad is no longer.

Alex Bourque, Elliot's father, passed away last year after a battle with cancer and Alex was a member of the Lafayette and Broussard Fire Departments.

Knowing that Alex would have been there for his son today, his former colleagues/brothers stood where he, Alex, would have been.

As you can see in the photos here, which were shared by the LFD on social media, Elliot was all smiles as he returned to school. After all, what young boy wouldn't love to have firefighters and their engines with him on the first day of school?

What a beautiful gesture by these firefighters and while they may have all been smiles today, you can be certain that Alex was smiling down too today as Elliot walked onto the campus when the men he once worked with.

We hope Elliot and all of the students in Acadiana have a wonderful school year.
