A Lafayette Emergency Room doctor's COVID-19 recovery was featured on ABC's "Nightline", and the story is heartwarming.

Dr. Grant Lashley, while working on the front lines against the coronavirus, contracted the disease in April. While he was ill, he experienced the following:

  • a COVID-related stroke
  • loss of muscle mass
  • loss of muscle control
  • intubation
  • 39 days on a respirator
  • over 90 days in hospitals
  • weeks of rehab
  • the joy of reuniting with his family

As each case of COVID-19 is unique to its host, Dr. Lashley's spiral was quick: his wife, also a doctor, said, "within 24 hours, he was hospitalized and in the Intensive Care Unit. And about 24 hours after that, he was intubated".

I can't imagine the fear that must have been running through the minds of the whole family.

I'm glad that Dr. Lashley recovered and is able to share his story with the world.

His advice? Practice social distancing, wear a mask, wash your hands, and be kind to each other.
