Lafayette's Krewe de Wideload posted a notice on their Facebook page announcing that next year's Mardi Gras Ball has been canceled, citing COVID-19 concerns.

In order to protect the health of our members/participants at Wideload functions, and after considering the financial risks associated with a canceled/restricted ball, Wideload will not hold a 2021 Mardi Gras ball - Krewe de Wideload

The Krewe mentioned the "uncertainties" that lie ahead in the wake of the coronavirus epidemic that has turned our world on its head, and they are trying to mitigate any losses. If they schedule a ball now and put time, money, and effort into the event just to have it canceled, well, that would be pas bon.

I have mixed emotions about them calling it off so soon. On one hand, I can't wait for life to get back to normal whatever it is going to be getting back to; on the other hand, our lives, safety, and comfort are more important than a ball.

I've never attended a Krewe de Wideload Mardi Gras ball but, judging from the pictures and videos I've seen, them sitting out one year will make 2022's event one to remember. Watch out, Lafayette: when Wideload returns, we'll have to make some room!
