At least one krewe of revellers is not going to let COVID-19 take away Mardi Gras for 2021. The Krewe de Canailles has announced that registration for its Mardi Gras event is now open. And yes, they are doing things a little, no a lot, different this year.

One krewe organizer explained it this way, think Christmas but with Mardi Gras. Here's what we mean by that. For 2021 the Krewe de Canailles will set up "sub-krewes" at various locations around town. The public will then be encouraged to drive by and view the "sub-krewes" in costume and perhaps performing a skit.

The theme of the 2021 Krewe de Canailles Mardi Gras event is a  tongue-in-cheek reference to the restrictions of the year 2020, it's "Oh, the places we didn't go". A tip of the Mardi Gras masks to the many restrictions of a pandemic infused year that was.

You have to admire this krewe's tenacity. While a lot of Mardi Gras Krewes are throwing in the towel instead of the beads this year, at least one krewe is attempting to keep the mischief and fun alive in a very unique way.

By the way, if you'd like to find out more about the event or even be a part of it, you can visit the Krewe de Canailles website.
