I guess it's a sign of the times that we all stop an consider our personal safety before we enter a place of business. Most businesses in most places exude safety and calm. I'd have to say that as far as major brand name stores go, IKEA would probably rank up there with the top stores I'd feel safe in. However, that wasn't the case yesterday.

Shoppers at the Fishers Indiana location of IKEA had their shopping experience interrupted by a single gunshot yesterday. It was shot was fired by a child who just happened to find the loaded weapon in between cushions of a couch on the IKEA display floor.

Apparently, the gun's owner sat down on the couch while shopping. Authorities believe the weapon slipped from his pants and into the cushions of the couch.  A group of kids discovered the weapon and one pulled the trigger. Fortunately, no one was hurt by the errant blast.

IKEA stores do have a no weapons policy and the store's management offered an apology to the child's family almost immediately after the incident occurred. Police in Indiana are continuing their investigation and it's not clear if charges will be brought against the owner of the firearm.
