A Kaplan bed & breakfast has received a great honor from the Louisiana Travel Association.

Crawfish Haven/Mrs. Rose's Bed and Breakfast won a "Louey" award from the association for being the Best Bed & Breakfast in the state.

Part of the consideration for the award is how the business impacts the tourism industry.

The owner of the bed and breakfast, Barry Toups, was in New Orleans to receive the award earlier this month.

Louisiana Lieutenant Governor William H. "Billy" Nungesser was on hand to present Toups with the award which 'honors and showcases individuals and organizations who made outstanding contributions to the Louisiana tourism industry".

If you've never been to Crawfish Haven/Mrs. Rose's Bed and Breakfast in Kaplan, you are missing out on a great time.

Not only has Toups turned a 120-year-old house into a warm and inviting bed and breakfast, he also utilizes the property the house is on to educate visitors about the life of the Cajuns. (If you ever get a chance to chat with Barry, ask him about the history of the house - it's fascinating!)

As part of your B&B experience at Crawfish Haven/Mrs. Rose's Bed and Breakfast, visitors have the option to join Toups on a crawfish excursion.

During the excursion, Toups explains the history of crawfishing in Louisiana and its importance to our region, all while harvesting crawfish on a working crawfish farm.

Toups explains the life cycle of the crawfish and takes visitors through the whole process of harvesting them, from preparing the fields to setting the traps to sorting the crawfish.

At the end of the day, of course, comes a real Louisiana Cajun crawfish boil (and, more than likely, a steaming pot of crawfish etouffee').

Because of the experiences Toups offers to visitors from around the world and the way he shared his love for everything Cajun, the Louisiana Travel Association has awarded him a "Louey"  Award for Bed and Breakfast of the year!

Congratulations to Barry Toups and a "thank you" for helping to share the Cajun way of life.
