Joni Of Sister Sledge Has Passed

Joni Sledge of Sister Sledge, whose 'We Are Family' is a staple of the PolyPoHo, was found dead in her home on Friday.

KATC reports that Joni was found dead in her home by a friend and that a cause of death has not been determined. She had not been ill recently.

The family released the following statement: 'We welcome your prayers as we weep the loss of our sister, mother, aunt, niece and cousin.'

Sledge and her sisters Debbie, Kim and Kathy formed the Sister Sledge in 1971 and had their first hit with 'The Greatest Dancer' in 1979. The title track for the album 'We Are Family' became their biggest and best known song.

Joni Sledge is survived by an adult son, her sisters and other relatives.
