Lafayette Police have arrested Michael A. Menard (52) of Lafayette and charged him with Armed Robbery.  Menard was identified by a Lafayette Police Department detective who recognized Menard from photos taken within Regions Bank on Johnston St. during yesterday's robbery. Investigators were able to locate Menard exiting his residence in the 100 block of S. Beadle after conducting surveillance for several hours.  Menard was then transported to the Lafayette Police Department for questioning.  At approximately 9:00 pm, investigators booked Menard into the Lafayette Parish Correctional Center.

Investigators continue to investigate the robbery to determine if Menard acted alone.  The case remains under investigation.

Regions Bank at 5711 Johnston St. near the Mall of Acadiana was robbed before noon yesterday.  The suspect stated he had left a 'device' behind.  The Mall was able to remain open for business all day and was not affected by the search and investigation. Johnston St. and areas of E. Broussard and adjacent streets and businesses were immediately evacuated.  Traffic in the area was a mess all afternoon and motorists were advised to avoid the area.
