Saturday, February 15 is Election Day in Louisiana — Here’s What’s on the Ballot
Louisiana voters will be heading to the polls this weekend as a couple of big vacancies in the state senate need to be filled.
Residents will decide the state senator in the 14th and 23rd senatorial districts.
The 23rd district affects the Acadiana area. It encompasses all or parts of Youngsville, Lafayette, Scott, Duson, and Ossun.
The special nonpartisan primary is being held to fill the seat vacated by Jean-Paul Coussan, R-Lafayette, who is now on the Public Service Commission.

The two candidates vying for the 23rd District State Senate seat are State Rep. Brach Myers, R-Lafayette, and Broussard Councilman Jesse Regan, also a Republican.
The 14th State Senate District race is also to fill a vacated seat. Cleo Fields, D-Baton Rouge, is now a U.S. Congressman.
Candidates looking to fill the mostly Baton Rouge district include three Democrats: Quentin Anthony Anderson, Carolyn Hill, and Larry Selders.
If you're heading to the polls to vote on either of these elections, the Louisiana Secretary of State's office wants to remind voters of the following:
- The deadline to request an absentee ballot was Feb. 11 by 4:30 p.m. (other than military and overseas voters).
- The deadline for a voter to return a voted absentee ballot to their parish’s Registrar of Voters Office is Feb. 14 by 4:30 p.m. (other than military and overseas voters).
- Due to unpredictable mail delivery speeds, absentee voters utilizing the United States Postal Service are encouraged to allow additional time for their ballot to reach its destination.
- Polls open at 7 a.m. and close at 8 p.m. on Election Day. Anyone in line at 8 p.m. will be allowed to vote.
