As you finalize preparations for Hurricane Francine, you may want to keep something in mind to protect your home once the storm impacts your area.

Monday night I was watching Rob Perillo's Facebook LIVE and he was mentioning things you can do around your home to protect your property and he mentioned one thing that I want to share with you here.

For so many years you may have heard that when strong winds are in your area, you should open your doors or windows to let the air flow through your home, to minimize damage.

If not for hurricanes, I've heard that too for tornadoes. Well, Rob relayed what he's learned at various conferences and it is the total opposite.

As winds begin to increase in your area, you should close all windows and doors, and this includes the doors to each room in your house. As Rob noted in his LIVE video, your roof acts like the wing on a plane, and too much air pressure beneath it, in your house, can force the roof off the structure.

So, as you finalize preparations for a storm, the last thing you may want to do while hunkering down in your home is to close all doors in the home and remember to always stay from windows.

We hope that you and your family stay safe during Hurricane Francine, and we will continue to provide you with updates here and on this station's mobile app.

Here's more information on what to do in your house as you settle down during a hurricane.
