Louisiana Powerball Ticket Misses $578 Million By One Number

(Baton Rouge, LA) It's not very often that a Louisiana Lottery player will have the chance to utter the words, "I just won $50,000, I am so unlucky," but believe it or not, chances are high that those words or something similar to them will be uttered by a Powerball player in Louisiana following Saturday's multi-state lottery drawing.

Saturday's Powerball jackpot was listed at $578.8 million. That's the estimated top prize for the annuitized jackpot; the cash payout prize was estimated to be $261.5 million.

The Powerball jackpot has not been won all summer long. The last time a Powerball ticket matched all the numbers needed to claim a jackpot prize was on May 31st of this year. That's when a ticket sold in California matched all the numbers to earn a jackpot prize of $207 million.

How Much Was the Powerball Jackpot on Saturday Night?

Here is how last night's attempt to find a home for some $578 million went. It's the Powerball drawing for August 16, 2025.

It looks like we'll have to wait until Monday to find a home for those millions of dollars since no ticket sold across the Powerball footprint matched the numbers needed to claim that jackpot.

There were also no Match 5 Million winners sold for Saturday's drawing. That means the top prizes awarded by Powerball for Saturday night will go to the tickets that match four white balls and the Powerball. One such ticket was sold in Louisiana.

The stat sheet from the Louisiana Lottery suggests that almost 8,000 tickets sold in the state earned money back for the players who purchased them on Saturday night. The Louisiana Lottery says just over 7,000 of those winners earned double their money back, with about 3,500 players tripling their winnings.

As of now, we can confirm that at least one ticket sold in Louisiana is a $50,000 winner. We can't tell you where the ticket was purchased at this time, but we should have that information later in the day when it's released by the Louisiana Lottery.

Where in Louisiana was the $30,000 Mega Millions Winner Sold?

Oh, and some unfinished business from Friday's Mega Millions drawing. We reported a $30,000 winner in that game. That ticket was purchased in Metairie at the Clearview Parkway Shell. Mega Millions will draw for $216 million on Tuesday night.
