In Our Own Back Yard: Palmetto Island State Park
I attended a family reunion over the weekend (the Richard Family, originally from Cow Island) at Palmetto Island State Park. It wasn't my first time at the park, but it was the first time I got to see the Meeting Room and the Splash Pad.
We rented the meeting room for our family reunion at a VERY reasonable rate!! The room was large enough to accommodate our family (there were over 100 of us, but not all of us were inside the room at one time). The meeting room had restrooms, a big-screen television with A/V hookups, a projector screen, tables, chairs, and AIR CONDITIONING!!
The Splash Pad was a huge hit with the kids, too! Because we rented the meeting room for the day, entry to the park for my family was free, but normal entry fee is $1 per person; free for Seniors (62 and older) and children age 3 and under. What a wonderful getaway for the day, right in our own back yard!
Palmetto Island State Park features a boat launch (into the Vermilion River), hiking trails, canoe rentals, cabins, campsites, meeting rooms and an Interpretive Center!
Palmetto Island State Park was a great venue for our family reunion, and we are planning to rent it again for next year!
