Hundreds Resign From Mystic Krewe of Nyx Over Controversy [VIDEO]

Hundreds of members of the Mystic Krewe of Nyx in New Orleans have resigned over controversial posts made by the founder and captain of the krewe, Julie Lea. According to WWL TV, the all female super krewe lost all of their non board member float lieutenants and several hundred riders on Tuesday.

Last week Lea made a post on the krewe's official social media pages that claimed "our souls are the same color" and "#AllLivesMatter". The statements were in reference to the protests against police brutality happening around the country after George Floyd was killed in Minneapolis. She was asked by board members to state #BlackLivesMatter on the social media pages, and also to promote African American members to the Board of Directors. Allegedly Lea refused.

The captain was then asked by float lieutenants and krewe members to step down from her position, but she has apparently declined. WWL says that attorney Ronald Morrison Jr indicated to krewe members that if they were unhappy, then they could resign from the organization. Nyx has been rolling during Mardi Gras since 2012, and is the largest parading krewe in the city. Their signature throws are much coveted hand decorated purses.
