High Water Closes Recreational Boating Areas In South Louisiana

In South Louisiana, we love our time near or on the water. It's when the water wants to come into our homes and businesses that we have an issue with it. Last weeks heavy rains are still causing some high water problems for several communities in the area. The high water has also caused the closure of several popular recreational boating areas. 

In Calcasieu Parish, recreational boat traffic on the Calcasieu River and English Bayou are now prohibited for the time being. The high water on those waterways has prompted an emergency declaration by the Calcasieu Parish Police Jury and the Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness.

Based on that declaration the following public boat launches have been closed:

• River Bluff Park
• White Oak Park
• LA 108
• Anthony Ferry
• Vinton Canal

High water has also prompted the closure of Alligator Park in Starks.

Parish officials suggest these areas could be off-limits for recreational boaters for quite some time. They will only be reopened once water levels have reached more normal levels. The good news is that no significant rainfall is in the forecast for the area for the next several days. Maybe we'll be back on the water sooner than later.
