When you look at the map you wouldn't think there would be much of a need for boat slips in New Iberia. That is until you look a lot more closely at the map and realize that the Bayou Teche runs right through the heart of the city. City leaders saw this as an opportunity to create something unique in town, an now they can.

Thanks to a grant from the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries and the United States Department of the Interior, New Iberia is about to become even more nautical tourism friendly with five new boat slips scheduled to be built downtown.

The mayor said the slips that will be constructed are mainly for watercraft that are operated mainly for pleasure. The addition of boat slips in the downtown area will give boaters everything they need to sail right into the downtown area for shopping, dining, and entertainment.
