June 14th is Flag Day in the United States; Old Glory was adopted on this day in 1777.

There are a few things that EVERY American should know about our flag: when to display it, how to display it, improper uses of, etc. The United States Flag Code outlines everything you need to know about the proper display of the United States flag.marking the adoption of the American flag by the Continental Congress in the First Flag Act on June 14, 1777.

One of the things that every American should already know about our flag is that it needs to be disposed of in a proper manner. According to the Code:

The flag, when it is in such condition that it is no longer a fitting emblem for display, should be destroyed in a dignified way, preferably by burning - US Flag Code

To make it easier for people in Acadiana to dispose of their unserviceable US flags, the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Youngsville have set up a flag disposal box in front of the VFW Hall on Lafayette Street in Youngsville.

It looks like your typical mail drop box, but it's designed specifically for US Flags! What a great idea!
