Christian Lopez is a 23 year-old mobile phone salesman with $100,000.00 in student loans. When Lopez found himself with a potential fortune in his hand, he decided not to keep it.

The longtime Yankee fan was in the Left Field stands at Yankee Stadium Saturday afternoon, hoping to witness history. He never dreamed he'd be part of it. Yankee Captain Derek Jeter's 3,000th career base hit was a home run to left, that lopez caught. Jeter is the 28th player in Major League history to collect 3,000 base hits in a career, and only the second to do it with a home run. He is also the only player to collect 3,000 hits as a Yankee. As you can imagine, Lopez could have gotten a fortune for the ball. He decided to give it back to Jeter. The Yankees rewarded Lopez with over $50,000.00 worth of merchandise & memorabilia, including season tickets and items autographed by the future Hall Of Famer. Over the course of this week, it's been reported that lopez's tax liability could exceed $10,000.00. Not to worry, Yahoo Sports reports several companies have offered to foot the bill. Maybe altruism is it's own reward after all....
