An elderly woman is dead after police say she wandered outside into the freezing conditions.

Lafayette police responded to the call on Tuesday around 7:20 a.m. on River Oaks Circle. When they arrived, they found the Mary Guillory, 74, deceased. Police believe the woman died of natural causes. No foul play is suspected.

Police say Guillory may have been battling dementia. According to investigators, Guillory went to a neighbor's house for help, but she eventually died.

The Lafayette Parish Coroner's Office is investigating the exact cause of death.
