Drones Being Used Along I-10 in Louisiana To Help Beautify Sound Walls
(Baton Rouge, Louisiana) - If you are driving down I-10 and through Baton Rouge, and see drones along the busy interstate, don't panic.
A few weeks ago, I drove through Baton Rouge and couldn't help but notice how dirty and unappealing the sound walls along I-10 are. Apparently, I wasn't the only one who noticed how unappealing the walls are, because they are now being cleaned.
WBRZ reports that LA Drones has been contracted to clean the walls alongside Interstate 10 in parts of Baton Rouge, and they need a good washing. According to the new station's report, it will take 10 to 12 days for the walls to be cleaned, with the majority of the work scheduled to occur at night when traffic on I-10 is less intense.
Still, drivers should expect lane closures while work is being done, and these closures will occur from the Acadian (Thruway) down to the I-10/12 split. For more information, drivers are encouraged to visit DOTD's website for details on nighttime lane closures.
How to Clean Walls Using A Drone
This project to remove vegetation and dirt from the walls is being funded in part by the city and the parish.
LA Drone Services has completed work in Lafayette and Baton Rouge, and has cleaned facilities such as the Cajundome and Tiger Stadium. The drones they use are massive and are connected to a hose from a truck, which sprays the surface being washed.
WBRZ reports, "The City-Parish says that the drone company's bid was the most cost-effective that they received."
Here's a look at the drones in action in Baton Rouge as they begin the process of cleaning the sound walls that run parallel to the interstate. Pretty impressive.
Here's another look at LA Drone Services in action. This is when they were contracted to wash the roof of the Cajundome.
