(KTDY) - Hackers are at it again, and they want your information, but there's one simple move you can do in your home or office that could protect you from those hackers.

I feel like every week we are telling you there's a new threat online or in a phone conversation, and today we have a reminder for you to do something simple to better protect yourself from hackers who may be overseas.

I was recently on the social media platform "X" and came across a post or reminder to unplug our Wi-Fi routers. We all have these routers in our homes or offices so that we don't have to hardwire into anything, but if you don't occasionally reboot them, you could be putting yourself at risk.

The digital age is moving fast, and those who wish to protect you and me from potential hackers know it; thus, changes and updates are often made to keep us safe.

Often, we are told not to share our personal or banking information with anyone we don't know, and now that hackers are aware of our silence on this, they are attempting to steal it.

We all have debit cards or credit cards saved on our computers or websites we frequent, but it is our responsibility to protect ourselves from those who want to steal our information for their own gain.

Well, in a recent reminder, the National Security Agency (NSA) is urging Americans to unplug their Wi-Fi routers for a few seconds, then plug them back in so the latest router updates can be installed or activated. They say that this simple move could protect you from the Russian military intelligence cyber actors who have been exploiting vulnerable home and small office routers to steal sensitive information.

As you may expect, there are those who doubt this, but intelligence has been "on its game" in recent years as unrest has skyrocketed across the globe.

So, we share this with you as a reminder that we all need to play a role in protecting our online data and information, and, according to the NSA, a simple reboot of your router could save you a lot of heartache.
