The City of Scott is the latest city to nix its Mardi Gras parade in 2021.

According to KLFY, the announcement was made this morning via a press release from Scott Mayor Jan Scott Richard

It is with a heavy heart that the City of Scott and Scott Business Association along with the support of our police and fire departments announce the cancellation of our 2021 Mardi Gras parade. We remain vigilant and focused on keeping our community safe, most importantly our citizens, our parade-goers, our public safety personnel, and our volunteers. It is a difficult decision, yet we remain focused on representing the whole, not the part. We look forward to returning in 2022 to continue with our family-friendly parade. In the meantime, stay safe, stay positive, and Eat More Boudin.

Many small towns are faced with making the call on their 2021 Mardi Gras celebrations as we close in on the new year due to permitting, logistics, and expenses associated with their parades that have to be handled far in advance. Although there is light at the end of the tunnel with a COVID-19 vaccine on the horizon, its widespread availability won't be here until after Mardi Gras has come and gone.

We'll keep you posted on any other local Mardi Gras cancellations.
