Caught: Louisiana Camera Shows Porch Pirate on Bicycle
All over Louisiana, unfortunately, there is no lack of people who decide that they want the packages delivered to your home, so they ride up and take them. We often report cases where someone follows a delivery van and then hops out of the car to steal something meant for you.
Occasionally, you hear stories of these "porch pirates" just riding around neighborhoods looking for packages on people's doorsteps or porches. They are looking for a crime of opportunity. These instances are bad for the person waiting on those packages and drive up the costs of everything.
Thankfully, when it comes to porch pirates, not every person who steals something from your home goes on their merry way without repercussions. Neighborhoods and businesses are now full of cameras of all shapes and sizes. Thus, this is the case with this person being shown on the Lafayette Crime Stoppers Facebook page.
The person stealing this package rode up on their bicycle, took what was at the door, and got away on their bicycle, but not without being caught by surveillance. Lafayette Crime Stoppers hopes someone out there can help them identify this person.
This particular porch pirate was caught on a Ring unit bicycling up to the home in the 200 block of Belle Drive on Thursday, December 12. You see the person in what looks like a white or gray hoodie walk the bicycle up to the porch area, grab the package, and then ride away.
If you know anything about this person or the crime, you are asked to contact the Lafayette Crime Stoppers program at 337-232-TIPS (8477). You don't have to give any information about yourself. All they want is information about the person committing the crime. You will remain anonymous.
If you prefer, you can download and use the P3 app from any mobile device. This is another way to provide information while remaining anonymous. A third option is to call **TIPS (8477). Again, your identity can stay private.
