Broussard Mayor Charlie Langlinais Proposes “Smart Use” Approach In Response To Joey Durel’s Public Health Tax Proposal
Lafayette City-Parish President Joey Durel has proposed an election in 2015 in hopes of creating a single public health tax. This would combine the existing mosquito and public health unit taxes, as well as adding animal control.
Mayor Langlinais released the following statement:
"A public health tax does not benefit areas, such as Broussard, as it is proposed. For example, the City of Broussard receives animal control services from St. Martin Parish. The excess money that currently exists from the taxes property owners are paying should be used for mosquito control and storm water retention areas maintenance. Businesses, homeowners and homeowners associations should be approached to dedicate private retention ponds to public oversight and we can make mosquito abatement a top priority in the parish. This is a smart use of those public dollars and benefits every citizen in Lafayette Parish."
