The New York Times is reporting that the FDA has approved a COVID-19 vaccine for emergency use in the United States.

Just yesterday, a government advisory panel endorsed the use of Pfizer's vaccine, so it was only a matter of time until the FDA approved its emergency use.

The vaccines are already on their way to individual states, so frontline healthcare workers should be seeing their first doses within a few days.

Louisiana Governor John Bel Edwards, in an earlier statement, reiterated that even with a vaccine, Louisiana residents need to remain vigilant. Edwards encouraged people to continue to wear masks, maintain social distancing, and to avoid large holiday gatherings. Even with a vaccine, he said, COVID-19 will be with us for a while.
