Lafayette Police have identified the bicyclist who was struck and killed early this morning as 52 year old Marklend Theriot.

Two lanes of SE Evangeling Thruway were shut down by the accident at 6:30 am and snarled traffic for hours.

According to witnesses Theriot was attempting to cross the Thruway when he was struck by a red four door car. The driver of the car did not stop and Theriot was subsequently struck by two more cars. The drivers of the second two cars stopped. Theriot was pronounced dead at the scene. Investigators are asking anyone with information on the identity of the driver of the red car call the Lafayette Police Department or Crime Stoppers at 337-232-TIPS.

At round 6:30 this morning, Lafayette Police were called out to a crash site after a bicyclist was hit and killed.

This crash was in the 2800 block of Southeast Evangeline Thruway.

UPDATE: Police say all lanes of traffic are now open.

Traffic investigators will continue working to find out what caused the crash.
