Residents in Upper Lafayette and Carencro might have been startled by the sounds of sirens and the rush of fire equipment last night shortly before 8 PM. Fire crews from Carencro, Lafayette, and Scott were summoned to the scene of a blaze at a location formerly occupied by Evangeline Downs Racetrack.

When first responders arrived on the scene they discovered what was described as a small blaze inside one of the barns that were formerly used to house horses at the race track. However, the barn was unoccupied and no animals were present when the fire broke out last night.

Crews from the three departments quickly brought the blaze under control. Damage was confined to just a small portion of the barn. No injuries to firefighters or animals were reported.
