More Than 40 Animals Die in Barn Fire in Acadiana
(Scott, Louisiana) - The Scott Fire Department responded to a structure fire on Monday night, and sadly, more than 40 animals were killed in the blaze.
KATC TV-3 reports that the fire department responded around 10:06 p.m. to the 1200 block of South Fieldspan Road after receiving reports of a barn fire.
When fire crews arrived on the scene, they found the metal building fully engulfed in flames, and because of the fire's intensity, two nearby homes were threatened. According to the report, firefighters began implementing defensive measures on the blaze to contain iit to the structure and prevent it from spreading to any nearby homes.
With the assistance of a water tanker, the fire crew contained the blaze in 10 minutes, but that wasn't enough to save the animals inside the structure.
Sadly, fire officials report that 25 rabbits and 18 chickens died in the fire.
The Duson and Judice fire departments also responded to the blaze on Monday night, and we can report that no one was injured in battling the large fire in Scott.
As for the cause of the blaze, KATC reports that fire officials believe it was caused by ordinary combustibles placed too close to a heating source. The barn was deemed a complete loss.
