Why is There an Airplane in the Middle of this Lafayette Field?
I was headed to lunch today and came across quite a sight: it's an airplane fuselage in the middle of a field in Lafayette.
As you'll see in the pictures, it's just the fuselage, no wings, no tail, no engines - just the cockpit and the passenger compartment.
There was a little bit of activity around the aircraft, a few men with ladders, but it wasn't clear what they were doing.
If you notice, near the front of the aircraft, a pile of dirt surrounds the cockpit area. It appears that they are trying to make it look like the aircraft made a crash landing in that field.
The rumor flying around (no pun intended) is that the aircraft is a prop for the Morgan Freeman movie being filmed in Lafayette.
It is my understanding that the aircraft was delivered via a "Low-Boy" tractor-trailer rig, and the road it is near had to be shut down for a few minutes to allow delivery of the fuselage.
Filming at the airplane prop is rumored to begin tomorrow, so if you have to take Beau Pre road on a regular basis, know that you may be rerouted tomorrow.
