No one was injured this morning when the trailer of an 18-wheeler hit one of the pumps at the Chevron gas station at 206 Ambassador Caffery Parkway.

Lafayette Fire Department Spokesman Alton Trahan says while the driver of the 18-wheeler was leaving the parking lot, the rig hit a gas pump.

He says that's when the gas pump was ripped from it's base and fuel started spilling out at the gas station.

The gas ignited, and there was a fire.

No one was injured, but the area around the pump and under the canopy at the gas station was damaged.

This Chevron station is on Ambassador Caffery near its intersection with Willow.

Lafayette Fire Department Spokesman Alton Trahan says that officials from Louisiana State Police, Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality and Chevron are checking out to assess how much damage was done.

Following the assessment of a contractor, the site will be repaired.
