Lafayette residents will have an opportunity participate in the visioning process for Downtown Lafayette’s portion of the Comprehensive Plan at an event planned for the Acadiana Center for the Arts (AcA) on Tuesday, October 30th beginning at 5:30 p.m.  Attendees will examine existing Downtown features and discuss their vision for the future. The session will last approximately two hours.

Downtown Summit One will build on the Open House inventory of ideas and concepts to establish the vision statement for the Downtown in 2026. Participants in the public summit will review existing conditions and analyses, development opportunities and known restraints. Small facilitated brainstorming sessions will discuss the activity mix in the CBD and will discuss linkages to other areas, streetscape and civic spaces, mobility, urban character, accessibility, lifestyle, culture and entertainment and strategic investments in Downtown.

The Downtown Strategic Framework Plan seeks to establish a compelling vision for the future of downtown and a framework of policies and strategies to guide its development and redevelopment, enhancing its functionality and urban character and promote its eclectic mix of cultural and entertainment activities.  The plan incorporates relevant analyses and content developed in other elements of the Comprehensive Plan and identifies the need for “project-level” initiatives to carry out the identified strategies.
