The mud dauber's nest is a series of cylindrical cells made of mud and created by the incredible hard work of one very patient insect.

Here in Louisiana we sometimes refer to the mud dauber as a 'mud diver'.  These are black and yellow and their nests are about the size of a human fist.  Here in Louisiana they can be seen under patios, carports, porches, etc.

They build the nest with mud, place a captured spider in each cell, then deposit one single egg in each.  When the larva hatch, they eat the spider and emerge.
