I have so many reasons to thank my mom for helping me turn into the person I am today, but one of the biggest for me is her sharing of her own love of reading with me. Each summer, she would take me to the Abbeville library and load me up with stacks of books. I'd devour those and we'd repeat the process. My mom also let me read my brother's comic books when he was away, which further fanned the flames of my love of reading. Today is World Book Day, a day established by UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization) to encourage and promote reading as well as publishing and copyright.

I've passed on my passion for reading to my girls, and my mom continues to encourage their reading as well! Encourage the young people among you to read and if you know someone who can't read, offer to help give them the gift of reading. Visit Literacy.org for resources.
