In a nutshell:  Some school districts are starting to offer experienced teachers 'buyouts', dangling the money carrot in front of them if they take an early retirement.  Schools in Pennsylvania, Maryland and Texas have offered the program.  Proponents say that it will save the school districts money in the long run; opponents think that it may weaken the education system.

Do you think it is a good idea?  This article brings up the question of  "what other professions would do this?".  As an example, they ask "what if hospitals would offer to 'buy out' the most experienced doctors and nurses?".  A risky practice, if you ask me!!

Tell me, would you take an early 'buyout' at your job at 70% of your pay for the next 8 years?  Or for a lump $10,000?
