High School Jamboree season is here! The Kiwanis Club of Lafayette will host the 61st Annual Kiwanis Club Football Jamboree on Thursday, August 23, 2012, at 6:00 P.M. and Friday, August 24, 2012, at 6:00 P.M. at Cajun Field. It is $10 per person a day with no re-entry to get into the Jamboree. This is the Kiwanis main fundraiser of the year and 100% of the proceeds will go to the Lafayette Kiwanis Service Projects for children of the Acadiana area.

The Kiwanis Club of Lafayette will host the "Crying Towel" luncheon to kick off the 61st Annual Kiwanis Club Football Jamboree. The "Crying Towel" luncheon will be Tuesday, August 21, 2012, 12:00 P.M. at the Petroleum Club. This is an event that everyone enjoys. All of the high school Jamboree teams coaches will attend. The high school coach with the funniest and saddest story wins the “Crying Towel.” In prior years they have had over 200 people attend.

The Jamboree is being held to help the Kiwanis continue serving the community and its children. Last year, the Kiwanis collaborated with Lafayette City Parks & Recreation to build Parc Independence in Girard Park. It was opened October 26th. This is Lafayette's first park specifically designed to accommodate children with physical or developmental disabilities. Kiwanis purchased and donated all of the playground equipment.

Other projects include the “BUGS” or Bringing up Grades program, Wheels of Wonder, Kiwanis Endowed Scholarship at UL, the Regional Spelling Bee, the Operation Magi Christmas shopping trip for over one hundred needy children, and several other projects or sponsorships.
