The Better Business Bureau has a warning for Acadiana residents: Do not to call an unknown number back or you may be taken by a new scam.

It is called the "One Ring" scam because scammers program their computers to blast out thousands of calls to random cell phone numbers, ring once, then disconnect. If you think you missed a call and call back, you will connect to a paid international adult entertainment service, 'chat' line, or other premium service located outside the country.

If you return the call you will be billed an international call fee of $19.95, plus per minute charges for the  'premium service,' which can cost $9 per minute or more, but the scammers may only put through a small charge of several dollars, so it won't arouse suspicion.

Consumers have reported these calls coming from the following countries and area codes: Antigua or Barbuda (268), Dominican Republic (809), Jamaica (876), British Virgin Islands (284) and Grenada (473).

The BBB says: Check your cell phone bills carefully and inform your carrier if you spot any unauthorized charges. The earlier you document this and other frauds, the better your chances of having some or all of the charges removed.
