More Compressed Natural Gas Buses Added to Fleet in Lafayette

Lafayette Consolidated Government continues to transition its transit fleet to CNG (compressed natural gas). Its latest buses are expected to be on the road at the end of January and feature a University-inspired extension of the “Fueled by Nature” theme.   Once the two new buses are on the road, seven of LTS’s current 23-bus active fleet will be fueled by CNG.  Within the next several months, LCG will place another 12 Compressed Natural Gas buses into service which were transferred to LCG via the Federal Transit Administration from Gwinnett County, Georgia.  By the end of the 2013 calendar year, Lafayette will expand its CNG bus fleet to 22 buses, and the total number of buses in the fleet will increase to 38.

The two newest CNG buses being unveiled were purchased at a cost of $465,000 from the Gillig Corporation using Federal Transit Administration funds provided to Lafayette through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009.  No LCG matching funds were needed to procure these new buses.
