Media Petition For Access To Tom Benson Proceedings

When Saints & Pelicans owner Tom Benson announced he was changing his succession plan earlier this year, it set quite a chain of events in motion. The move was met with an immediate legal challenge by his daughter Renee,and grandchildren Rita & Ryan. The 87 year old patriarch was ordered to undergo an evaluation by a medical team, and a hearing was set for June 1st. WWL reports, Benson's lawyer requested that all future proceedings be closed to the media. District judge Kern Reese granted the motion. A group of media has petitioned for access to the hearings. The group includes ESPN, and Gannett, owners of numerous newspapers, including Lafayette's Daily Advertiser. The motion will be heard Friday at 9:30 am.
