Happy Mardi Gras! Yes, I know, we just finished with Christmas & New Years. C'mon, now. This is Louisiana. January 6th is the 12th night of Christmas and one of the oldest celebrations in Christianity, the Feast of the Epiphany. Many Catholics observe it on the closest preceding Sunday. Twelfth night is traditionally observed with a King Cake, symbolic of the three wise men who brought gifts to the baby Jesus. A small figurine of a baby is traditionally concealed in the cake, representing the newborn king. Whoever finds the baby in their cake is traditionally obligated to bring the next King cake to a subsequent gathering. There was a recent blog at 999ktdy.com, posing the question, "When is it time to stop saying Happy New Year?" It's today, as far as I'm concerned. Happy Mardi Gras!
