One city in South Louisiana is battling gun violence in their community and they do not want anyone to become the next victim so they're closing all public parks.

KLFY News 10 reports that the city of Jeanerette will close all public parks this weekend (April 20th and 21st) due to the amount of gun violence in the city and the parks.

In the report, city officials say that they have reason to believe that relations could occur in the parks this weekend as they investigate previous shootings in Jeanerette.

Therefore, if anyone is caught in the parks this weekend, police will arrest individuals on the public grounds.

The J-Town Livin’ Park Party event scheduled for Sunday at King Joseph Park is one of the events that police say violence could occur at, thus that is why this event will not be allowed to happen this weekend.

Authorities say that the parks will re-open once police feel that it is safe to do as they do not want to put anyone's life at risk.

The event scheduled this weekend in Jeanerette will be rescheduled for a later date.
