Lafayette Man Charged In Fatal Sunday Crash
34-year-old Albert K. Sampy of Lafayette faces serious charges after a crash Sunday night that caused the death of a 10-year-old child.
Sergeant Kyle Soriez with Lafayette Police says the fatal crash happened at the 200 block of North University Avenue (Railroad Underpass) around 10:30 pm. Officers say Sampy crossed the centerline in his 2012 gold Jeep Grand Cherokee and hit an oncoming 2011 white Ford Explorer head-on.
Sampy and his passenger only suffered minor injuries. The child passenger in the truck died at the hospital.
Sampy faces Vehicular Homicide, Vehicular Negligent Injuring, 3rd Offense OWI, Operating a Vehicle while Under Suspension and Driving on the Right Side of the Roadway charges as police continue to investigate.
