Lafayette Little League Heads To New Mexico In Hopes Of Getting To World Series (Audio)

After dominating the State Tournament, the competition gets much tougher for the Lafayette Little League Junior All Stars (13-14 year olds) as they look to win the Regional Tournament in Albuquerque, New Mexico, and advance to the Little League World Series in Taylor, Michigan (outside of Detriot).

Originally, the team from the Hub City was set to play Friday on Talkradio 960 AM and But, after two teams dropped out of the tournament, it’s been decided that Lafayette will now play West University Little League (Houston) at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 3. The pregame starts with James P. Bitterman at 9:30 a.m. on Sportsradio ESPN 1420 AM and

Lafayette is coming off an impressive state tournament in which they won all of their games by way of the mercy rule. Five of the players on this team were a part of the group of players that made it to the Little League World Series when they played as 11-and-12-year olds. According to Bitterman, Houston will pose a tough challenge. He points out that of their 15 players, none of their names match the coaches’ names (in Little League baseball it’s very common to see dads coach their sons) and says this “should be an outstanding game.”

Relive the last time that five of these players represented Lafayette by playing in a Regional Tournament in 2011. Down by 5 in the Southwestern Regional Finals, 400 miles from home, they were part of a Lafayette Little League team that pulled off an incredible comeback to advance to the Little League World Series (11-12 year olds), which was called on the mic by James P. Bitterman. CLICK BELOW to watch:
