Marijuana has been a hot topic of discussion all over the US in recent months. Colorado has legalized its recreational use, despite federal statutes. The Louisiana Legislature opened the current session with no fewer than 15 bills to consider regarding marijuana, it's medical use, and other issues. Senator Fred Mills introduced a bill at the opening of the session to clarify how medical marijuana will be dispensed & regulated.
The Advocate reports a senate panel has rejected a bill to reduce penalties for simple possession of marijuana. Senator J.P. Morrell of New Orleans introduced Senate Bill 323 which met stiff opposition from sheriff's and district attorneys.
