There's just one requirement for being a user of social media, internet access. A lot of people use Facebook, Twiiter, Instagram, and other social media to say in touch, reconnect with old friends, share recipes, and humor. There are, unfortunately, hackers and worse. We, as parents, need to make sure our kids are aware the internet isn't always a safe place. I don't feel a 12 year old has any business on Facebook to begin with, but that's a decision families have to make for themselves.
