The Humane Society of Louisiana is "On the Road Again" (to borrow a phrase.) Their TransPUPtation program was halted last year when their aging van succumbed to eight years of use. They have a new van, thanks to a New Orleans area bank.

First Bank and Trust held several fundraisers in 2013 to help with the purchase of a new vehicle.

Johnna Harris of the humane society said,  "It's exciting to be on the road in the new TransPUPtation vehicle. We estimate that we will be able to save more than 6,000 homeless animals in this van, thanks to everyone who generously donated to help us purchase it."

They're making a trip up the east coast to deliver 27 dogs to waiting families, some as far away as New Jersey, Connecticut, and Maine. Three drivers will take shifts, minimizing the number of stops.

Each trip costs about $2,500. Individuals wishing to contribute financial assistance are welcomed to send a tax deductible donation to: Humane Society of Louisiana, PO Box 740321, New Orleans, LA 70174. You can also donate at www.HumaneLA.org
