I'm putting myself out on quite the limb here, but here goes: a number of cities in these United States of ours are moving trick or treat to Thursday, October 30th so as to accommodate Friday night football.

Let me first be clear that I don't have any problems with sports or athletics in general. I do, however, have a huge problem with any kind of fanaticism. I've had more than one unpleasant encounter with people who missed the memo that sports, while great for character building, health, and other reasons, nevertheless remain less important than other activities. I can tell you horror stories about having to fight with both coaches and some parents over scheduling retreats or academic activities in light of sporting events during my time as a Catholic school teacher.

That said, Halloween isn't quite the same as a religious observance. I personally think that trick or treat shouldn't be moved because it's a tradition tied to a specific date, but I understand why some communities are doing so. Let us know what YOU think on Facebook!
